Through out the term, this assignment is my favorite one in this class. In this assignment, I had the opportunity to explore 30 ways to deal with an object, straw. Here are the materials (logo, drymount tissue, a blackboard, a metal rule, a clean plain white board and a cutting board)

Measure the black in 8x8 inches and cut the square out.

Iron the drymount tissue (only the middle) on the back of the logo.

Cut out the logo in pre-set size, 6x6 inches

Measure the margin on the blackboard, then iron the cut out logo's corner on the board.

Place the logo on the bottom, and layer the white board on top of it.

Wait for about a minute.

A drymounted logo is created!

Reflection:

This logo recreation project gave me to opportunity to learn more about the logo I recreated, which is Starbucks logo. I researched Starbucks' history in order to learn the background of the logo; at the same time I spent hours on drawing this logo. I do see that I have space to improve in recreation design. I enjoy the process that I drew this logo. Besides creating a logo, this project required us to work in groups, it was a chance for us to learn to work with other people. My group communicated well with each other, and I do see that we did a successful job on the presentation! Drymounting is a technique I learned from my photography class, this project required us to mount our logos on blackboard. I thought I could use a technique that I learned and apply to other related classes. This was a good chance for me to use a technique that I learned and used on this assignment.

"I Love New York" logo by Milton Glaser.

he I Love New York logo is a registered trademark of the New York State Department of Economic Development.

I chose Milton Glaser to be my search designer because his work is simple and neat. The image above is a well known design that he created. Base on this image we could see that he played with illustration and text, on this work both illustration and text hold a connection to each other, and it shows a powerful meaning of "I Love New York." Refer to our previous project we used typeface to create pattern, which could apply to Milton Glaser's style. This creates a connection from project 1 to project 2.

It is much organize comparing to tutorial that I found online. It is easy for me to find tutorial that I want to know by typing a key word. For each section it has description that help me to know more about the section that I am learning, meanwhile, related tools and function are linked as well. Adobe live docs is a benefit for me, as a beginner of using illustrator. In the future, I could use it as tutorial when I am using other Adobe software.

Jerry Uelsmann is a black and white photographer who is well known of his multiple exposured silver gelatin prints. This is an example of his work, and this one gives me better chance on expressing my insight of Uelsmann's works. Uelsmann did his multiple exposures in the darkroom, and I am interested about his darkroom printing technique. We should consider that when Uelsmann was printing his works, Adobe Photoshop was not yet discovered. It is very clear that this is an image of a combination of a house and tree roots. I like it because it shows me a surreal feeling, as well as weirdness. Even though his composition is surreal, it brings us to another world that lead us to think that the object composed actually exists.

Computer experience:

A new Mac user. Experienced on using Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and InDesign. I had the opportunity to use Photoshop in my photography classes, and I use Photoshop daily to edit color balance and contrast of my digital photos. I used Dreamweaver to create a web-portfolio for my University Studies class. I took ART 200 in winter'09 and I started to experience InDesign.

What are you excited about?

I am looking forward to expand my knowledge on using Photoshop and learn how to use Illustrator. Meanwhile, I want to know more about design, hopefully, after this term I will have a good idea on design and with the software.

Favorite books and magazines:

I don't have favorite English books and magazines. I do read some Marvel comics.

Favorite websites:

Wikipedia and Flickr. Wikipedia contains multiple sources for research, it has multiple versions in different languages which will be a benefit for people who speak foreign languages. Flickr is a website that we could view other people art works and images. This gives chances for people to hold discussions and to receive comments and suggestion.
